Meet Sheila

I’m Sheila Salamat, a licensed psychotherapist with advanced training in perinatal mental health, specializing in all aspects of maternal mental health.

Nurturing women, new moms, and moms-to-be are my passions.

As a working mom of two children, I understand first hand how crucial it is to have solid emotional support during pregnancy, postpartum and motherhood. I also know just how challenging it can be to juggle the many roles women take on. There is not one correct way to navigate these complexities and I can help you come up with an emotional plan that makes sense for your life.

I trained at Early Childhood Parenting Center in Santa Monica where I focused on early childhood development. I worked as a child development specialist and co-facilitated infant and toddler groups. Later, I worked to help pregnant women in transitional housing with issues such as life transition, mindful parenting and infant attachment.

My interest in women’s mental health eventually led me to facilitate postpartum therapeutic groups at Providence St. Johns Child and Family Services in Santa Monica where I have spent the last five years working with pregnant teens and young adults.

It has been a privilege to hold space for and help these young mothers learn to manage complicated emotions, discover their inner resources and grow into strong, confident and conscious parents. Knowing that my work with parents can transform not only their own lives but the generations to follow brings deep meaning to my work.

I started my private practice to offer mothers support in navigating what I believe is THE biggest transition of their adult lives. A mother is born at the exact same time as a baby. I want to make sure that you are able to do more than simply survive this experience. I want you to thrive!
